6/11/08 Speeches and Impeccable Timing

Well, apparently flailing around doesn't trigger the "investigate" reaction in Urtt guards.

Especially dead Urtt guards.

The only remaining question…

Postby Retiarius on Thu Jun 12, 2008 5:55 am

…is why Gorshash isn’t dead as of the last panel?

After all, while recurring villains are a long-standing tradition in storytelling, it's hard to justify not killing him as soon as possible.

The only thing I can figure is that they intend to use him as a hostage, but I'm not sure urrts care about hostages anyway. Unfortunately, species that lack ruth tend to shoot through superiors that are weak enough to get captured. Getting a promotion by killing a weak boss and nailing the escapees would be a win-win situation for an urrt, I'd think.

Zona would kill him just because he has it coming. Tula would do that too, but also because he’s too smart to let run loose.

Maybe they intend to keep him alive for questioning, but under the circumstances I can't see it worth the risk of him escaping them while they are escaping him.

OK, that’s way too much plot analysis when all I have to do is check back for the next update. :P

I'm not dead

Postby Steve on Thu Jun 12, 2008 3:08 pm

I'm not dead!

He says he's not dead!

Yes, he is.

I'm not!

He isn't?

Well, he will be soon. He's very ill.

I'm getting better!

No, you're not. You'll be stone dead in a moment.

Oh, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.

I don't want to go on the cart!

Oh, don't be such a baby.

This was a great panel. I read it over several times before voting. Can't wait to see what happens when Mentl shows up.

Well, can you hang around a couple of minutes? He won't be long.

No, I've got to go to the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.

Well, when's your next round?
CART MASTER:
Thursday.

No typo. It refers to the fact that Tula recognizes that Zona's strength and skill in martial matters are far superior to hers - and her sister's slightly less-subtle approach to problems would have meant that, if Zona had used the projectile, Gorshash wouldn't have even had time to gasp. The playing piece would have hit his ridged forehead and gone clear through the back of his skull and out again.

And yes - there is a lot more to Zona than we've shown so far. :)

One also suspects that Tula is a lot less willing to kill than Zona is, being - I'm assuming - more spiritual than her sister.

...JE, I sent you a PM the other day. Could you get back to me, please?

ROBIN:
Bring out your dead! Bring out your dead!

Lance enters, dragging a little old man, apparently dead.

LANCE:
Here's one.

DAD:
I'm not dead!

ROBIN:
Here, he says he's not dead!

LANCE:
Yes he is.

DAD:
I feel happy. I feel happy.

Dad leaps up and begins singing.

DAD:
I am not yet dead,
I can dance and I can sing.
I am not yet dead,
I can do the highland fling.
I am not yet dead,
No need to go to bed.
No need to call the doctor,
'cause I'm not yet dead.

The four bodies on the cart suddenly sit up and start singing.

MINSTRELS:
He is not yet dead
That's what the geezer said
Oh, he's not yet dead
That man is off his head
He is not yet dead
Put him back in bed
Keep him off the cart because he's not yet dead.

The old man performs a lively dance but Lance whacks him smartly on the head.

MINSTRELS:
Well, now he's dead
You whacked him on the head
Sure now he's dead
It makes me just see red
You are such a brute
To murder that old coot
You homicidal bastard, now he's really dead

Just a selection from the Spamalot stage production. I just had to share, since not everyone is into theater. Which is a shame, because Spamalot was fantastic.

Also, I love the shot of Tula casually checking her nails(to make sure there's no Urtt under them, surely). Just putting that out there.

It seems Gorshach respected Zona's skill and strength in martial matters as well, which was why Zona was chained to a wall in another room, while Tula was allowed relative freedom in the "smart urrt's" presence. Gorshach's fatal mistake (besides underestimating Zona's strength of course) was in thinking Tula was helpless without her magic.

Alas poor Gorshach-we hardly knew ye.

That more or less implies that Gorshash will be returning ... if he's dead now, he presumably gets resurrected by Shuach or somebody.

Typo Alert: In the first panel 'Congratulations is misspelled as 'congratualtions'.

Maybe, but if he is dead, then he still won't be making that mistake again.
