Tula thinks Zona arrived right on time too. Also, Mentl is feeling the squick for whacking Ginsha.

A: He's pulled it back in a ponytail

B: It's on his right ankle, you just can't see it. I'll draw it in a little brighter.

It's Mentl.

Two possible answers to Zona's question:

a) They made him kill a person.

b) He had to kill a person.

Two answers that may seem the same at first, but are actually quite differant.

his cha is seriously out of wack then. I mean in his heart, he seduced, mentally overpowered, and beat down, a 'relatively' "innocent" being.

so yeah he's gonna have some talking to do, get it off his chest. This may be the first real 'fight' between Zona and Mentl.

Not just the killing, killing a woman, because he had identified with her as such and had to force himself to change the spell to "hunger". I think he might have done a few more, the clothing doesn't look like something from a lady's room. It might be interesting to see, if he has been killing with magic, then he can continue, he would be focusing too hard on the task in front of him (getting the girls and him out) and blast without considering the girls.

Let's not feel TOO sorry for Ginsha. Remember, this "relative innocent" willingly led our heroes into a trap, knowing that Very Bad Things would most likely happen to them afterward, AND she was about to torture, possibly rape and definitely kill Mentl just because he said some things that pissed her off. If he hadn't "cowboyed up" and summoned the power to magically seduce her, well, let's just say his part in this story would most likely be over.

And Ginsha would just have been killed by Zona instead upon finding her over Mentl's corpse. So the half-urrt was doomed either way.

Even if she wasn't 'relatively innocent,' he still more or less crushed her personality in favor of a sheer, barely controlled lust, a desire to please and be pleased by him, and a belief that anything he does is wonderful. Then he has to whack her, while she's screaming in pleasure and begging for more.

That should be disturbing for anyone. Squick.

Willing to bet that his clothing did come from Ginsha's room. She struck me as the type that once she was allowed to own things, went a touch overboard and grabbed whatever she could, wether she needed it or not.

'sides - how do we know that this is the first time this trap has been pulled?

The first time with Ginsha from the conversation after they were gassed and when Mentl woke up in chains. Although the going overboard idea fits.

Spam Vader, you made it even a sicker situation than I did. Ugh. You are right though.

I'm just of the opinion that Mentl needs to have already done some extra whacking of Urrts or do some on the way out for character development purposes. Yeah, he is "safe" in the arms of Zona again, so he could revert back to his semiwimpy self and work on the cowboy stuff later in another emergency, but I dislike those kind of stories. I'd prefer him to do the cowboy some now and have problems with control and competence using the power.

IMO, better tension to have them on the run with no time to sit down and get Mentl the instruction he needs, which gives him the power, but fearful of using it because he can go too far. Perhaps accidently hurting Zona with some of his power by miscalculation on the way out (something Tula could fix fairly trivially, but enough to get Zona's attention). Maybe not doing the actual hurting himself, but what he does distracts Zona so she does get hurt (you could do both, Zona distracted, Zona hurt, Mentl blasts attackers hurting Zona some more).

I think this should be a sea change WRT Mentl by a lot of the other characters in the comic when they get back to other humans, although maybe it could start with the cats being weird around him as they "smell" the difference in him.

Just a couple points ...

Postby JEDraft on Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:52 pm

Because it's not going to be mentioned in the script moving forward:

There were both men's and women's clothes in the trunk. There had been a number of captures of Kivalians and Erogenians in raids that were carried out with these ancient tunnels as a secret base. This was, after all, the reason for Zona's trip in the first place. The trunk was one of several, and was given to Ginsha, with no care to sort its contents, as the equivalent of a performance bonus.

This was the first time that Gorshash had decided to use Ginsha for such an important mission. She did well, and was rewarded. Mentl, as a low (or no) value slave was given to her to put her on the lowest ladder of social respectability. The equivalent of a subsistence farmer having an undersized cow, I imagine. She was thrilled, naturally, and was in no mood to have her party rained on - with the results that you saw.

You know what I'ld occasionaly like to see from now on?

Ginsha's ghost - not always, though often the bloody corpse version - appear at times of stress to haunt Mentl. Wouldn't even have to say anything, just to be there to remind him of what he did.

Dammit, Mentl's going to need some TLC after this, and I can see him withdrawing into his self and leaving Zona not knowing how to handle the situation, leaving her fustrated.

Ooh, some juicy hallucinations of a Ginsha with her head crushed begging for more right when Mentl is starting to get intimate with Zona, squicking out Mentl faster than you can say P.T.S.D.?

I can see how that would make their relationship a bit strained.

Wow, talk about a mood killer. And I can see Zona taking personally Mentl withdrawing from her at that moment, especially if he's unwilling to talk about it (as many men would be at that time).

Yeah, that would put a strain on their relationship alright, especially on Mentl's end if he looks back on their relationship and remembers that Zona always got really hot for his bod right after he sang for her (or even within her earshot). He could end up wondering just how much of her feelings for him are "real".

Maybe Zona should be wondering too?

Well, now that we're discussing it so much, odds are that's not going to be what happens. Time to write a fan-fic...
